[Posted 8/11/10] A report that updates the 2009 recommendations by CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) regarding the use of influenza vaccine for the prevention and control of influenza is now available on the CDC website. Highlights of the 2010 recommendations include:
- a recommendation regarding the age range for which the annual vaccination is administered;
- a recommendation regarding the number of doses of seasonal influenza vaccine that children aged 6 months to 8 years whose vaccination status is unknown, who had no previous vaccinations, or had certain other vaccination histories should receive during the 2010–11 season;
- a recommendation regarding which virus strains should be used;
- information about Fluzone High–Dose, a newly approved vaccine for persons aged ≥65 years; and
- information about other standard–dose newly approved influenza vaccines and previously–approved vaccines with expanded age indications.
These recommendations and other information are available at CDC’s influenza website (http://www.cdc.gov/flu). This site should be monitored for updates or supplements throughout the 2010–11 influenza season.
