Fatal Work Injuries in 2009 Declined 17%

[Posted 8/23/10] Preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate 4,340 fatal work injuries in 2009, down from 5,214 in 2008. Economic factors are believed to have influenced this result, since total work hours fell 6% in 2009. The lower total may also be influenced by fiscal constraints on government agencies, which delayed the gathering of data. The final number will be available in April 2011.
